5 EFT Benefits in Narcissistic Abuse Recovery

Sharing is caring

If you have been the victim of a narcissist in your life, you may be carrying deep wounds and trauma. EFT for narcissistic abuse recovery can help heal these wounds, and it’s easy and drug-free.

EFT can be done, without the help of a practitioner or therapist, by yourself in the comfort and safety of your own home. Or, you can work with a professional EFT practitioner or even a skilled friend, and get support as you are going through the healing process.

What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques (with an “s” at the end, even though it is commonly called “Emotional Freedom Technique”). EFT is also known as simply “tapping.”

EFT was founded by a Stanford-trained engineer named Gary Craig who studied various acupressure techniques used for healing despite not being a therapist. The problem with these systems is that they used complicated combinations of acupuncture points.

So, Craig devised a simple formula that involved “tapping” on various main acupressure/acupuncture points while focusing on a problem. This system, EFT, has been found remarkably effective for all sorts of issues, from anxiety and depression to phobias and even physical illnesses. EFT can also help with PTSD symptoms.

The acupressure points used in EFT come from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a system of healing that has been developed over thousands of years through observation and trial and error. You do not need to understand TCM to use EFT, nor do you need to believe in any particular spiritual philosophy or religion.

Gary Craig has since expanded beyond his original EFT formula, as well as the tapping, to work on a more spiritual basis with what he calls the “Unseen Therapist” that he believes everyone has within. However, you can still learn his original EFT formula for free on his website.

EFT has many spin-offs that can also be highly effective. They may use similar names and can incorporate various affirmations and other types of healing work.

5 Ways EFT for Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Helps

A holistic practice like EFT, which is free to use, is seldom studied as much as profit-making pharmaceutical drugs. For this reason, you may not find tons of “clinical research” proving that EFT works. Rather, the proof is in the pudding. Try it, and see if it helps you.

Here are just five ways EFT can help victims of narcissistic abuse:

1. EFT May Help Reduce Stress, Depression & Anxiety

Using EFT can make a huge difference with stress, depression, and anxiety. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), negative emotions are often a result of blocked energy in what is called the “meridian” channels. The tapping in EFT stimulates new energy (chi) to flow and removes emotional blockages.

2. EFT May Help Lower Cortisol Levels

Once the energy or chi begins to flow, it can help reduce cortisol, which is a stress hormone that can become problematic when it is produced too much. Cortisol also puts weight on the belly, so lowering cortisol can also help you lose weight!

3. EFT May Help Lessen PTSD Symptoms

Panic attacks, nightmares, and phobias are especially responsive to EFT treatment. Note: You may need to approach the issue from a variety of angles before receiving full relief. For severe cases of PTSD, you should consider finding a qualified EFT practitioner or licensed therapist experienced in EFT to help you.

4. EFT May Help Physical Manifestations of Pain Related to Narcissistic Abuse

Anecdotally, EFT has been reported to help significantly with pain relief.

5. EFT May Help in Healing Childhood Wounds

Childhood wounds often lead to low self-esteem, and this is precisely what a malignant narcissist can exploit in an abusive relationship. By working through these old wounds, lasting self-esteem can be built and imprinted on the psyche.

Tips on Using EFT to Heal

To heal from narcissistic abuse, you should expect that you will need multiple sessions of EFT. While EFT can heal some problems almost instantaneously, for complicated issues, you may need to work on multiple layers. (These are called “aspects” in traditional EFT.)

If you find that the EFT is not effective after tapping on one aspect, try another. For example, let’s say you were in a car accident, and you tapped on the fear. This helped only slightly. By tapping on something more specific, such as “feeling trapped in the car,” you have hit on the deeper issue.

EFT is a Great Free Tool for Healing After Narcissistic Abuse

Going to see a therapist can be expensive. Acupuncture, which works similarly to EFT, can also help, but also costs money. EFT is a wonderful free tool that anyone can use to work on emotional healing from narcissistic abuse.
